The City of Los Angeles has a balanced budget for Fiscal Year 2013-14. The City Council just approved it. It's not perfect, but it gets us back to where LA was before the recession. Revenue is up and the city easily met its cash reserve policy.
The Occupy movement has taught us a lot about the role of public spaces. In short, they are under attack. We saw this with the raiding of the Occupy LA encampment and also see this with the privatization of our public libraries.
